Tony Sherrill Up-and-Coming Student Award

Overview

This award recognizes a student in her/his first two years as a major or minor in the Department of Religious Studies who shows great academic promise and has contributed to fostering a greater understanding of religious studies on campus and/or the community.

Criteria

Interested students must apply with a cover letter to include:

  • list of current and completed Religious Studies courses with grades earned
    current overall GPA
  • total number of completed credit hours as of January 1 of the current year
  • the date of declaring a major or minor in Religious Studies
  • expected graduation date
  • memberships and leadership roles in student organizations or other groups that foster an understanding of Religious Studies

Specifically, the cover letter should describe how you have contributed to fostering a greater understanding of the goals of the academic study of religion on campus and/or the community. Contributions might include exploring with others the diversity of religious traditions or the connections between religion and culture, religion and politics, religion and the arts, religion and race, religion and gender, etc. The contributions might be made by organizing Religious Studies Student Association events, completing class projects, or participating in community events or other activities.
